@article{Ceban_2026, title={The Feminization of Job Titles in French}, url={https://intertext.ulim.md/intertext/article/view/6}, DOI={10.54481/}, abstractNote={ The subject of this article consists of the interest in addressing the gender of nouns related to professions from a French-Romanian contrastive perspective. Clearly, we will examine whether there are any differences between French and Romanian regarding the identification of gender as a grammatical category. It is worth mentioning that both French and Romanian possess the grammatical category of gender. We will approach the gender of nouns from the perspective of a French-Romanian contrastive analysis. We will particularly focus on profession nouns. By addressing the lexicon related to the feminization of professional nouns in the French language, we observe how it evolves in line with social changes. Thus, the feminization of nouns that designate professions is a set of lingistic processes that reflects the presence of women in pblic life. The most important aspect of the feminization of professional nouns is, without a doubt, the progress made by women who have mobilized for gender equality. Naturally, this equality has also been reflected in language, through the choice of vocabulary and linguistic structures that influence their way of thinking and shape their self-image. In this regard, two key dimensions can be identified: on the one hand, the feminization of terminology-namely, the creation of feminine forms for occupational titles, ranks, positions, and fnctions, and on the other hand, the feminization of textes, referring to the techniques employed to explicity incluude the feminine gender in written discourse (such as internal memos, newspaper articles, official correspondence, etc.).Within framework, the analysis will focs on the feminization on nouns designating professions in the French language, with a comparative perspective on the Romanian language. }, number={1(65)}, journal={Intertext}, author={Ceban, Tamara}, year={2026}, month={May}, pages={17–25} }
